For me year, my Starbucks factor is much larger than I would like to even think about. As the end of the year winds down I am starting to think that I need to address this bad habit. Not only do these purchases really add up, it is also way too much sugar and caffeine. I am not just addicted to the caffeine and sugar though. I am addicted to the wintery warm cozy feel that these beverages allow me to experience.
This afternoon, I was feeling the urge to recharge with a Starbucks and I just did not want to give in this time. I don't want to be slave to anyone's product. So here is what I made instead....
Mocha Peppermint Coffee
- 1/2 c hot milk
- brewed coffee of your choice
- peppermint hot chocolate mix
Mix 1 scoop of hot chocolate mix into the hot milk and mix well. Add coffee to fill to desired color/strength.
Do not hesitate to add whip cream on top or a candy cane on the side.
You can adjust the amount of sugar by the type of hot chocolate that you add to the milk and/or the amount that you add.
And... Because I am using coffee instead of expresso, I have reduced the caffeine and sugar intake of a beverage that was too often purchased.
Have the wonderful warm beverage this season, but leave out the exorbitant amount of money unnecessarily spent!
